A song cycle is a set of individual songs conceived to be performer in sequence, either choral, or for solo voice. It is difficult to properly define a song cycle, because its definition overlaps with the one of 'song collection'. However, it may be said that a song cycle is meant to be presented as a unit from its composition, and the pieces -which can be as few as two or three or as much as thirty- share some kind of unifying thread. This can be the authorship of the text, the text itself, a thematic connection, etc.
