Brazilian violinist Vladimir Rufino received his Master of Music degree from Azusa Pacific University (USA), Artist Certificate from Azusa Pacific University (USA), and his Bachelor of Music degree from the Universidade Federal da Paraíba - UFPB (Brazil). He started his violin studies in 1992 and was part of the studios of Mr. Yerko Pinto Tabilo and Mr. Charles Stegeman. During his studies he participated in many music festivals and symposia in Brazil and United States such as the Starling-Delay Symposium on Violin Studies at The Juilliard School. In 2014 Rufino was an Artist in Residence at the Banff Centre with the Vaughan String Quartet. He played in the Paraíba Youth Symphony Orchestra as concertmaster, Chamber Orchestra of the City of João Pessoa as assistant concertmaster, Azusa Pacific University Symphony Orchestra as concertmaster, and the Paraíba Symphony Orchestra. He also appeared as a soloist in front of the Paraíba Youth Symphony Orchestra, University of Alberta Symphony Orchestra, and Chamber Orchestra of the City of João Pessoa. As a chamber musician and orchestra member, he has appeared in many stages around the world, including the Walt Disney Concert Hall (Los Angeles), and venues in various countries: Brazil, Argentina, Portugal, Germany, France, United States, and Canada. He founded the Quarta Dimensão; a chamber group composed by flute, violin, clarinet and cello. With the Quarta Dimensão, he represented Brazil in the 15th and the 18th FIMU (Festival Internacional de Musique Universitaire) in Belfort – France. Later the Quartet recorded the Solo CD “Músicos e Poetas” and the piece Circumversus on the CD “Música de Câmara/Chamber Music” of Eli-Eri Moura (Brazilian composer). From 2003 to 2007 he played in the Camerata Brasílica. He became the orchestra concertmaster in July, 2004. With the Camerata, he took part in many festivals, competitions, recordings like the DVD “Sivuca, o Poeta do Som”, the CD “Terra Esperança”, and in 2006 the orchestra second solo CD “Brasilêra”. With the Camerata Brasílica he was one of the winners of the National Competition of Youth Chamber Musicians (Londrina, Brazil – 2006). He was also part of the Villa-Lobos String Quartet. With the quartet he has done lots of concerts in the U.S. showing to the American public the rich Brazilian repertoire both popular and classical. In 2009 he participated with the quartet in the FIMU (Festival International de Musique Universitaire) in Belfort - France. While living in Los Angeles, he participated in many concerts as concertmaster, chamber music, recordings, and musicals around Southern California. Rufino is currently first violin of the Vaughan String Quartet and is pursuing the degree of Doctor of Music in Violin Performance at the University of Alberta (Canada).
