In music, the term 'romance' has been applied to many different genres and styles of composition. Originally used for Spanish ballads, it was later adopted by Classical and Romantic composers to mean a simple, lyrical and intimate piece, either for voice or solo instrument, most of the times in 3/4 or a similar time signature.
