Robert Ewen Birchall Música

Robert began musical activity first on his own initiative and was initially self taught before starting piano and music lessons in his home town with Percy Jones, He attended Chethams Music School in Manchester UK and then studied privately with Ian Gleaves before going on to study at the Royal Northern College of Music where his principle teacher was George Hadjinikos. Robert has established a reputation both in the UK and internationaly as an exciting solo pianist with an exceptionally wide expressive range and repertoire, he has performed extensively in recitals and concertos throughout the U.K, at festivals in Europe and Scandinavia and as far afield as the Middle East in music ranging from the English 16 century keyboard composers, through the classical , romantic and 20 century repertoire including recent works such as Ligeti Etudes. Robert is also in demand as a concerto soloist and chamber musician and is currently a visiting tutor at the Birmingham Conservatoire. He has given highly praised performances of such  emanding works as the ‘Catalogue d’Oiseaux’ of Messiaen, ’, the Bach ‘Well Tempered Klavier’, most of the Beethoven Sonatas, Messiean ‘Vingt Regards’ and much of the standard concerto repertoire. Reviews of his playing have praised his ‘authoritative pianism’, ‘complete command of tone and colour’ and ‘stunning virtuosity’.
