The sicilienne (also known as siciliano or siciliana) is a genre often appearing as a denomination for a movement in a multi-movement work. Siciliennes tend to be slow pieces, in 6/8 or 12/8 time signatures, and the usually feature a dotted rhythm. They are most frequently in a minor key, and evoke a pastoral mood.
