Piano Sonata no. 13 In E-flat major 'Quasi una fantasia', Op. 27 no. 1
Beethoven composed his Sonata no. 13 'Quasi una fantasia' Op. 27 no. 1 in 1800-1, dedicated to Princess Josephine von Liechtenstein. . He had already made a name as a pianist and composer, and was starting to explore alternatives to Vienesse traditions. The most famous works of his middle period were yet to come. Sketches for the work survive, but the original autograph copy is lost. The sonata shares it subtitle with the so called Moonlight Sonata and, unlike the latter, it's played without pauses between movements, in the manner of most fantasias. A typical performance of the work lasts 15 minutes.
