Joaquín Espín y Guillén was a Spanish musician, father of opera singer Julia Espín, girlfriend of Gustavo Adolfo Becquer, and one of the pioneers of modern zarzuela. Strong advocate for the creation of a Spanish national opera, partially got premiered in Madrid in 1845 Padilla, or The siege of Medina, sung by the famous tenor Enrico Tamberlick.
