Franz Schubert composed his song cycle Die schöne Müllerin (Op. 25, D. 795) in 1823, while he was also writing his opera Fierrabras. Based on a set of poems published three years earlier by Wilhelm Müller, it is widely considered to be one of Schubert's most important cycles. The vocal part falls in the range of a tenor or soprano voice, but is often transposed to a lower range to be sung by other voices.
