Franz Schubert wrote his Overture in D major in the Italian Style in 1817, at the same time he wrote its companian Overture in C major. These pieces are now catalogued as D. 590 and 591 respectively in the Otto Erich Deutsch catalogue. The first Overture of the pair, in D major (published in 1886) was a success, and Schubert employed fragments from it in posterior pieces.
