Igor Stravkinsky wrote his 'Tango' in 1940, with subsequent rewrites and adaptations in the following years. It was one of his first compositions donde entirely in America, partly as a way of overcoming some financial problems he was having, as he wasn't able to cash in his royalties from music composed in Europe. Stravkinsky's Tango has become one of his most famous and recorded pieces for piano, probably due to its simplicity. Although it is named after the Argentinian style, it display very few stylistic features from Argentine Tango, instead exploiting the use of sincopation to create a distinctive atmosphere. A typical performance of the piece lasts about four minutes.
