Szymanowski Nocturne and Tarantella, Op. 28

The Nocturne and Tarantella, Op. 28, were written in 1915 by Karol Szymanowski, first performed five years later by by Paweł Kochański and Feliks Szymanowski (the composer's elder brother), and published in 1921. The two pieces were dedicated to August Iwański. The Nocturne shows reminiscences of spanish-like idiomatic resources, and the Tarantella makes use of left-hand pizzicatos, double stopping and other effects. In 1937, Grzegorz Fitelberg arranged the pieces for violin and orchestra. There is also a version for string quartet, arranged by M. Skoryk.
