Mozart Fantasia in D minor, K. 397

The Fantasia in D minor, K. 397, is a piece for solo piano composed by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart in 1782. Though the main part of the work was written that year, Mozart's death found it still incomplete. The original manuscript was never found, and it is speculated that the unfinished bars were completed by August Eberhard Müller. The Fantasia is a particular work, and one of Mozart's most unusual ones: it is populated with very unusual rhythms, several tempo changes, and almost entirely deprived of musical form (something beyond the realm of normality during the classical period). Its particular character has made it a recurring object of analysis for music theorists.
