Beethoven's Cello Sonata no. 3 in A, Op. 69 was written in 1808. It consists of three movements: the first one explores variations on its main theme. The following scherzo is in the tonic minor key (Am). The finale is preceeded by a short introduction, thus giving the whole work a similar layout to that of the Archduke trio, where a slow movement follows the scherzo before going into the finale.
