Schumann Violin Sonata no. 1, Op. 105

Schumann's Violin Sonata no. 1 in Am, Op. 105 was written in 1851 in less than one week, and premiered the following year. It is a work in three movements, with the first one being in a canonic-themed sonata form. An intermezzo at a brisk pace somewhere between a slow movement and a scherzo forms the second movement. The final movement recalls the theme of the first one. Schumann was reported to have expressed displeasure with the work, and his second violin sonata seems to have stemmed from this dissatisfaction.
