Stephen Heller's wrote his 25 Études mélodiques for piano in 1844, aimed at the intermediate student, and functioning as an introduction to the revised edition of his set of etudes 'L'Art de phraser', Op. 16. The set of 25 Études mélodiques was catalogued as Op. 45, and revised in 1888 (with formal rewriting).
