Delibes Lakmé

Léo Delibes wrote Lakme in 1882. It is an opera in three acts, set to a libretto by Edmond Gondinet and Phillippe Gille, based on Théodore Pavie's story Les babouches du Brahamane and the novel Le Mariage de Loti by Pierre Loti. The opera was premiered in 1883, and, like many operas at the time, it enchanted its audience by depicting scenes from the eastern world. The 'Flower Duet' and the 'Bell Song' aria became its most popular pieces.
