Clémenti 6 Sonatines, Op. 36

Muzio Clementi's Sonatas, Op. 36 (usually called Sonatinas) are a regular feature in the curriculum of most piano students. They were originally published in 1797, intended as a progressive teaching tool, with the difficulty increasing with each sonatina that passes. The set focuses on developing the basic repertoire of piano skills. They have been notably influential in the development of generations of pianists, and in piano teaching (they still used as of this day for their original purpose). The success of these sonatinas resulted in several of Clementi's easier pieces being classified as Sonatinas. Erik Satie would later parody this (particularly the Sonatina Op. 36 no. 1) with his Sonatine bureaucratique.
