Aya Higuchi Hagelthorn received her DMA and MM in Piano Pedagogy and Performance from the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor. She received a Bachelor’s degree in Music from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where she also studied Applied Mathematics (Computer Science). She has been active as a piano teacher, collaborator, music-therapy and outreach performer, and has been teaching at the University of Michigan Piano Pedagogy Laboratory Program since 2001, where she is the coordinator and senior teacher. Her solo and collaborative performances have been well received in Japan, Italy, Prague, and the U.S. She has presented her pedagogical ideas at several conferences, including the Music Teachers National Association, the National Conference on Keyboard Pedagogy, and the Michigan Music Teachers Association. She is founder and CEO of Musiosity, LLC, and is a member of the College of Examiners at the Royal Conservatory of Music.
