Pedro de Cristo was a Portuguese composer of the Renaissance. He is one of the most important Portuguese polyphonists of the 16th and 17th centuries. Little of his work is known because most of it has not been published. However, it is possible to assess the quality and number of his works through the studies published in the early 80s by Ernesto Gonçalves de Pinho, where unpublished biographical information and specific information about the handwritten works of this religious and composer are given. Of the 220 pieces that make up the entire catalog only half a dozen have been published with actual musical notation. Written with simplicity and elegance, and sometimes inspired Gregorian theme, kept a remote high-impact technique inherited from the fifteenth century Flemish counterpoint, which, however, departs from imitative patterns in the melodic lines to produce a sober construction which enhance the word and text.
