Johann Gotthilf Ziegler was a German composer and organist of the Baroque. In Dresden Ziegler was taught by Christian Petzold, the organist of the church of St. Sophia. In 1710 he was a pupil of Friedrich Wilhelm Zachow and studied for a short stay in Frankfurt at the University of Halle three years jurisprudence and theology. Around the year 1715 Johann Gotthilf Ziegler received in Weimar lessons from Johann Sebastian Bach, in which he learned the art of choral composition
