Johann Baptist Baumgartner was a chamber virtuoso of the Prince Bishop, was educated in Munich, and then made a concert tour through Germany, England, Holland, and Scandinavia. Besides some violoncello concertos he wrote: "Instruction de musique theoretique'et pratique a l'usage de violoncelle." This instruction book appeared in 1643 or 1777, at the Hague.
