Felipe de Jesús Gutiérrez Villanueva was a violinist, pianist and Mexican composer. It is one of the best known figures of Mexican musical Romanticism, which flourished during the historical period known as the Porfiriato in Mexico. At ten years old he wrote his patriotic cantata for piano and four voices; a year later he composed his piano mazurka El último adios. In 1873 he entered the National Conservatory of Music under the protection of principal, Alfredo Bablot. However it was later rejected by the school, so he must pay for his studies of piano and harmony in private lessons with the teacher Antonio Valle.
