Benjamin Blake was an English violist and composer who was an active musician at the King's Theatre, and later, in the Prince of Wales Orchestra in London. He played both violin and viola, but his unusual interest in the viola prompted him in the 1780's to compose and publish 18 duos for the violin and the viola. Blake also played viola in a string quartet formed by Franz Cramer, a leading violinst of the day, who directed the Italian Opera Orchestra.
